A Twist of Fate

This morning, while waiting at the train station for nearly two freaking hours (the train was late), I bought a Tango magazine. Kristin Chenoweth is on the cover and is the subject of one of the main articles. In the article, it talks about the role she is currently playing on Broadway, that of Glinda the Good Witch in Wicked.

Later in the day, while wandering around Chicago, we decided to go to the Oriental Theater to enter in the lottery drawing for specially-priced tickets for the show that evening. Which show? Wicked.

We went back at 5:30 pm for the drawing, not really expecting anything, but thinking it would be cool if we got to see the show. (Especially for the low low price of $25 for tickets that normally cost $85.) After about 10 names had been drawn, Mr. Science-Girls name was called. I was quite excited.

After eating delicious sandwiches at Potbellys, we went back to the theater for the show at 7:30.

It was AWESOME.

I definitely recommend seeing "Wicked" to anyone. Anyone, even non-musical lovers, would probably enjoy this show. The costumes, the musical numbers, even the set were AMAZING. Even the flying monkeys were kickass. It was incredible. We spent most of the walk back to our hotel saying over and over how freaking awesome the show was.

I was struck by the twist of fate of having read about someone being in the same show that we won tickets to see later in the day. Interesting.

The joy of sitting in the fourth row was being able to see the actors all up close and personal. I saw up Madame Morribles nose at one point.

As a side note, do actors have to contain massive amounts of saliva to be successful? The actors were quite spitty, mostly when they were singing. Galinda/Glinda spit once. Elphaba spit a couple of times. The Wizard was shooting saliva every which way. Mr. Science Girl and I were intrigued. And yet grossed at the same time.

But, bottom line: It was FREAKING AWESOME.

What an excellent anniversary present. Thanks luck, or fate, or whoever was in charge of that. I owe you one.
